Customer Spotlight: How Linear Eliminated 5 Automation Tools with CapEngage Studio

Linear's engineering team replaced Zapier, n8n, and three custom scripts with a single CapEngage Studio workspace. Here's how they did it and what changed.

Linear's engineering team had a Zapier account, an n8n self-hosted instance, three internal Python scripts on a cron job, and a Make scenario they inherited from a contractor. Every integration lived in a different place. Debugging a failed automation meant checking four dashboards. Adding a new step meant figuring out which tool it belonged in.

Alex Rivera, CEO at Linear, put it simply: "We were spending more time maintaining our automation tools than building Linear itself."

The Migration Decision

Linear evaluated Studio against their existing stack over two weeks. The criteria were: unified execution log, no per-step pricing, support for complex branching, and an API-first architecture they could hook into from GitHub Actions.

Studio met all four. They started the migration on a Monday.

Week One: Consolidating 5 Tools into One Workspace

The first workflow they rebuilt was their incident response pipeline — the most complex one, with 8 nodes and three conditional branches. Using Studio's AI Copilot, they described the workflow in plain English and had a working draft in 4 minutes. Total rebuild time including testing: 45 minutes.

By Friday, all five automation systems were retired. Their Studio workspace had 23 workflows covering:

  • Incident response (Datadog → PagerDuty → Jira → Slack)
  • GitHub PR notifications and auto-assignment
  • Customer onboarding sequence (Stripe → Linear → Slack)
  • Weekly engineering metrics report (Postgres → OpenAI → Notion → Slack)
  • Release announcement pipeline (GitHub tag → changelog generation → Slack + email)

What Changed

Three months after the migration, the engineering team's metrics were clear: 70% reduction in time spent on automation maintenance, zero failed workflows going undetected (Studio's real-time log catches failures instantly), and new automations shipped in hours instead of days.

"Studio is the first automation tool that feels like it was built for engineering teams, not marketing teams." — Alex Rivera, CEO, Linear.
